Start with the job the covering must do
Material selection should follow the application, required coverage and project specification. A breathable parking canopy, a poolside structure and a rain-covering walkway do not automatically need the same roof.
HDPE shade fabric
HDPE is commonly considered where airflow and solar shade are priorities. The exact fabric grade, colour, span and tensioning arrangement belong in the project specification and quotation.
PVC-coated polyester, PTFE and PVDF-coated fabrics
Coated membranes are used where the project calls for a different surface, appearance or weather response. PTFE and PVDF-coated options should be compared by the stated product data and intended design, not by material name alone.
Polycarbonate, metal sheets and sandwich panels
Rigid roofing can suit walkways, shelters and other applications where the roof design calls for it. Drainage, support spacing, noise, heat and connections to existing buildings need to be considered with the complete structure.
Put the selection in writing
Ask the contractor to identify the proposed covering, steel finish and applicable warranty terms in the quotation. If a consultant has already specified a material, send the full requirement rather than a shortened description.
