A torn or loose parking-shade fabric does not always mean the whole structure must be replaced. It also does not mean a new sheet can simply be fitted to the old steel. The sensible first step is to inspect the covering, its fixings and the frame together, then define whether a local repair or a replacement is appropriate.
This guide is for facilities teams and property owners assessing an existing car parking shade. It helps you record useful information for a quotation without diagnosing the structure from a photograph alone.
Start with the condition of the fabric
Look for tears, holes, worn edges, damaged seams, loose tension and areas where the covering rubs against the frame or hardware. Note where the damage appears and whether it is isolated or repeated across several bays. A membrane specialist's inspection is needed to determine whether a repair can be made under the product's instructions or whether a new covering is more appropriate.
The care procedure depends on the identified material. HDPE mesh and PVC-coated polyester are different products; PVDF may refer to a finish on a compatible coated membrane. If you have the original invoice, material data sheet or shop drawing, include it. Do not select a replacement only by matching the old colour.
Inspect the steel and connections before ordering new fabric
Check the visible condition of columns, arms, weld areas, plates, bolts, edge cables and fabric attachments. Record corrosion, loose or missing components, deformation, movement and any place where a sharp edge could affect the new material. Keep people clear of a visibly unstable structure and arrange a qualified site assessment before work proceeds.
Replacing the membrane does not correct a frame or connection problem. The inspection should establish whether the existing structure can accept a new covering, whether repairs to the steel are needed, and which parts of the scope require design review. We cannot confirm that from photos alone.
Match the replacement to the actual shade design
Fabric choice should follow the approved covering objective and the frame geometry. Confirm whether the customer needs ventilated solar shade or a coated membrane with different water-management requirements. Record the existing attachment method, panel shape, edge detail and drainage arrangement. Manufacturer documentation and the approved specification should govern any proposed material and fabrication method.

What to include in a repair or replacement inquiry
- The city and address or site area, plus the number of shade bays affected.
- Wide photographs showing the full structure and close views of the fabric, edges, seams, fixings and any visible steel damage.
- Approximate dimensions, existing drawings or material records if available.
- Access restrictions, operational hours and any owner or consultant requirements.
